SOLENT 80 POWER BOAT RACE 20 JULY 2024

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN jointly by the King's Harbour Master Portsmouth, the ABP Southampton Harbour Master, Langstone Harbour Master and the Cowes Harbour Master that the United Kingdom Offshore Power Boat Racing Association (UKOPRA) will conduct the Solent 80 powerboat race on Saturday 20 July 2024. 

2. Approximately 25 power boats will partake in the race.  Competitors are expected to be travelling in excess of 50 knots.  A full description of the race and  participants is available from the UKOPRA website (https://www.ukopra.co.uk). The following summary is provided for information:

a. Vessels are expected to muster in the vicinity of the Roway Wreck beacon in the Eastern Solent from 1100.

b. All vessels will start at 1130.

c. The course will be from the Roway Wreck beacon, Pullar buoy then around the Isle of Wight. Turning points for the race include St Catherine’s Point,  Bridge buoy, North Head and other buoys in the Western Solent and its approaches. The race will finish in the vicinity of a special mark 3G Cowes Week 2026 to the south of the Beaulieu River entrance.

d. The race is expected to complete by 1400.

3. The fleet will be escorted by marshall vessels which will be identified by flying UKOPRA logo flags.

4. Competitors and race officials will be listening on VHF channel 37/M1.

5. All participants have been directed to obey the Dockyard Port of Portsmouth speed limit and must be at least 1000 yds from the MLWS line when exceeding 10 knots.
