PLYMOUTH LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS 045/22
PLYMOUTH SOUND - DIRECTION
PLYMOUTH TRIATHLON – SUNDAY 28 AUGUST 2022
1. This is a direction by the Queen’s Harbour Master Plymouth pursuant to the Dockyard Port of Plymouth Order 2020.
2. The Plymouth Triathlon Open Water Swim will be held in Plymouth Sound on Sun 28 Aug 22, directly north of Mount Batten at 0700. Up to 100 swimmers and escorting safety craft will be on the water.
3. The Water Events Diary 2022 gave early notice of the Plymouth Triathlon. This PLNTM gives information of timings, the course and directs mariners accordingly.
4. Course Swimmers will enter the water from Mount Batten Centre western slipway, they will then swim west approx. 350m parallel to Mount Batten 20m from the shore to temporary yellow buoys, competitors will turn right and right again and back to the start. Sprint distance competitors do 1 loop and standard distance competitors do 2 loops, exiting at the same slipway. Swimmers will be escorted by safety craft throughout. Safety craft will consist of kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and 2 powerboats.
5. Only authorised craft are permitted within the group of swimmers.
6. The Safety Management is being coordinated by Plymouth Triathlon Club PTC, assisted by the Mount Batten Centre MBC who are providing 2 Safety boats. PTC and MBC personnel will be in attendance in safety craft throughout the event.
7. Mariners are to keep clear of the swimmers and are at all times to navigate with caution and at slow speed when in the vicinity of persons in the water.
