PLYMOUTH LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS 038/22

PLYMOUTH SOUND - DIRECTION

THE CHESTNUT APPEAL CAWSAND BAY SWIM EVENT– SUNDAY 10 JULY 2022

  1. This is a direction by the Queen’s Harbour Master Plymouth pursuant to the Dockyard Port of Plymouth Order 2020.
  2. The Chestnut Appeal Cawsand Bay Swim event will be held in Cawsand Bay on Sun 10 Jul 22 starting from the centre of Cawsand beach from 0845 to 1215. Up to 150 swimmers with escorting safety craft will be swimming a diamond shaped course to the north and east of Cawsand. Participants are expected to be clear of the water by 1215.
  3. This PLNTM gives information of timings and the course and directs mariners accordingly.
  4. Swimmers will enter the water from the shore at Cawsand at 0845. They will swim a diamond shaped course round temporary yellow marker buoys in positions as follows:

B1: 50° 19.867’N, 004° 11.987’W

B2: 50° 20.007’N, 004° 11.953’W

B3: 50° 20.182’N, 004° 11.563’W

B4: 50° 19.948’N, 004° 11.548’W

5.      Only authorised craft are permitted within the group of swimmers and the exclusion zone.

6.       The event is being co-ordinated by the Chestnut Appeal. Safety management is being coordinated by “Water Event Safety” whose personnel will be in attendance in safety craft throughout the event.

7.        Mariners are to keep clear of the exclusion zone for the duration of the swim (0845-1215) and, where practicable, are to navigate with caution and at slow speed when in the vicinity of any persons in the water. Vessels that cannot avoid transiting the exclusion zone (e.g. for purposes of transiting to or from a mooring) are to navigate with extreme caution and, where practicable, liaise with event safety craft as to the number, location and direction of swimmers.
