Black Tuesday and The Last Royal Navy Warship Lost to Enemy Action.
On May 25 in 1982 Argentine air forces made an all-out effort against British shipping in the Falklands to mark their national day.
HMS Coventry accounted for at least two of the enemy aircraft with her Sea Dart missiles, but the destroyer's luck ran out late in the day when she was hit by three bombs in rapid succession. The Type 42 sank rapidly, losing 20 men. To date she is the last Royal Navy warship lost to enemy action.
'Black Tuesday' also cost the UK the support ship Atlantic Conveyor, carrying vital equipment and supplies, but left a burned-out wreck with a dozen men dead after she was hit by an Exocet missile.
