HMS Tamar Shows Her Iconic Wartime Paintwork.
An iconic wartime paint job has been revived by HMS Tamar for her maiden deployment this summer.
'Dazzle paint' - various shades of black, white and grey in strange or jarring shapes - have been applied to the hull, echoing the livery of Royal Navy vessels in the two world wars.
The paint scheme was introduced in a bid to confuse enemy U-boat crews and gunners when aiming at Royal Navy ships and despite advances in technology, the scheme can still trick the eye at dawn and dusk or when a ship is close to shore.
The aim is to paint all five second-generation River-class ships with the dazzle scheme in due course to give them a unique identity in the Fleet.
