RN FPS Deployment Support & Deployment Information Pack

As a Unit gets ready to deploy Royal Navy Family and People Support (RN FPS) are there to support not only their Service Personnel but also their Families.

Being informed of the support mechanisms and communication methods during deployment assists with the period of separation as it ensures everyone knows what is out there and how to stay in touch with the Unit, other Families and RN FPS.

RN FPS support in many ways including:

Bespoke Information – A Families Information Pack provides a one stop shop for all things specific to deployment. This is normally requested by the Serving Person during Pre-Deployment Briefs, but is also attached to this post so that you can read it online or download to your personal device. If you do not get a postal pack and you would like one then please email rnrm-wio@royalnavymail.mod.uk.and we will pop one in the post to you.

There are also packs for Submarines that are located within the secure area of the RN Forum – these can also be requested as a postal pack.

Support for Children – Memory boxes are available for all children on request – these include a notebook, worksheets and colouring sheets, pencils, eraser and sharpener, post-its, seeds and a voucher from Naval Children’s Charity as well as two well used publications – Hello from Home and When a Special Person goes Away. This box is very much there to give children a place to store all those important things that can be shared with their Service Person when they next see them. These can also be requested via rnrm-wio@royalnavymail.mod.uk

Community Activities – Normal practise would see activities delivered within centres close to RN Unit areas but recently these have been taken online using both Facebook and Zoom to deliver activities to all wherever you may live within the UK and Overseas. Some of these will be deployment orientated and some specific to individual units. Keep an eye out for these within the official Facebook groups – these can be found attached to the Royal Navy Family & People Support Facebook page - you can also search by using HMS Ship Community which is the naming convention for all officially run and moderated groups.
Keeping in Touch – this is not only carried out via Facebook as not all information can be posted within third party Social Media but also in the RN Forum where you are currently reading this post. If you are not already a member then please do join using the tab at the top of this page. Both the RN Forum and Facebook groups are moderated to keep everyone safe 365 days per year – this also means you have a member of staff available should you have any questions or concerns.

Support at times of crisis – if you do have any concerns or issues whilst your Serving Person is away then the RN FPS Portal is there to support and guide you. They also work closely with JCCC which is the agency to contact should you need to get your Serving Person home if they are deployed outside of UK waters/overseas due to serious illness or bereavement within the family.

The above is only some of the support available, so do make sure you read the attached pack, visit the Deployment pages on the RN Website and take a look inside the RN Forum and see if there is also a Facebook Group for your ship/unit.
Feel free to ask questions below too and the RN FPS Information Officers will be here to answer them for you.
