National Research Project - University of Central Lancashire and the University of Salford
WE INVITE YOU TO TAKE PART IN A NATIONAL RESEARCH PROJECT What is the research about?
Being wounded, injured or sick within military service and making the transition from service to civilian life may present challenges. This study aims to understand these challenges and the support that is available both during and following transition for people who have been discharged with a physical injury or illness. We want to hear from people who are in the process of leaving or have left service from the UK Armed Forces since 2012 as a result of a physical condition, injury or illness. You will have been medically downgraded, but it is not necessary to have had a medical discharge
- e.g. you may have chosen to leave because your medical condition stopped you progressing in your career. In this study we are not looking for people whose main condition leading to discharge was a mental health issue, unless it is linked to a physical injury or illness. We would also like to hear from spouses/carers of this group.
To do this we are carrying out interviews with 50 individuals from across the UK over the next two years. We are also conducting interviews with stakeholders and support agencies. What am I being asked to do?
You may be interviewed up to a total of two times, with around 9-12 months in between each interview. The interviews will take place in your own area at a time suitable for you by a trained University researcher. We will ask you about your experiences of making the transition to civilian life as someone categorised as wounded, injured or sick. We will record the interview with your permission.
Each interview will last about an hour. You do not have to talk about anything you don't want to discuss, and you can withdraw from the research at any time. Everything you say will be treated in confidence. Your name will not be used in any published reports and we will not pass your details on to anybody else. We will also keep you informed about the research findings. Who is doing the research?
The research is funded by the Forces in Mind Trust, and is being conducted by independent researchers from the University of Central Lancashire and the University of Salford. Will I get paid?
As a thank you for taking part you will receive a £20 shopping voucher for each interview. How do I take part?
