Entry requirements

Hi My name is Carissa I am 28 and I have had a growing passion joining the RN, But I am disappointed to say I had a acl recon and cartilage repair in 2015 I have always been a very active person playing football at semi pro level and a black belt in martial arts naturally having this injury has put me back. However I have returned to football last year and have full movement I know in the entry requirements state having this invasive surgery is a barr entry and will 100% fail on the medical BUT is it worth knocking on the door! And appealing?

Hi, unfortunately the medical standards for entry following ACL reconstructive surgery are non-negotiable however other services such as Army and RAF may have different single-service policies in this area.

    Good luck.

If you hold a Kenyan passport and birth certificate, you need to live in UK for five years before eligible to apply to join the Royal Navy.

If I hold a British passport but am South African born and currently resident, would I be eligible to apply to join the Royal Navy?

Yes. We would need to apply for a residency waiver to gain security clearance and you'll be advised of the requirements by London AFCO, but if you hold a valid British passport, you are eligible to apply on grounds of nationality.

I am a current South African resident, however I was born in Zimbabwe and have a Zimbabwe passport, would I be eligible to apply to join the Royal Navy? The reason for asking is I have heard stories of Zim passports being equivalent to British passports due to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) being part of the Uk.

Unfortunately Zimbabwe is suspended from the Commonwealth which means passport holders are ineligible to join the Royal Navy. South African passport holders need to live in UK for five years immeditely prior to joining in order to to meet the residency eligibility criteria to join the Royal Navy.
