Welcome to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Recruiting Forums

A warm welcome to all those considering a career or undergoing selection to join the Naval Service.

This section and the subforums within it are being updated and are now active, with careers advice direct from Royal Navy/Royal Marines Careers Advisers.

Users are reminded that all advice offered is done so in generic terms, in good faith. Bear in mind we may not be aware of the fuller circumstances surrounding your application. Likewise definitive medical advice can only be offered by qualified service medical professionals once they are in possession of your full medical health history - all we can do is try to help manage expectations and give you a pointer in the right direction - we cannot offer definitive medical advice or offer individual bespoke advice.

The aim of the forum is to enable users to converse with other people who are in the same situation as yourself and to offer generic, but not personal/specific guidance to individuals.

If you wish to submit an application, just follow the guidance on this link: https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/forums/m22424.aspx#22609

If you wish to discuss your individual circumstances one-to-one, just use our livechat feature on this page: http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/careers/joining/get-in-contact

Good morning.

For those wishing to join the Naval Service, you must first register, then submit an online application. The link is here: https://www.royalnavy.mod...cation/?commcode=TV-00

Alternatively, just give us a call 03456 07 55 55 to check eligibility, discuss career options and initiate the application process. You're under no obligation to join.

Good luck.

For those currently browsing the forums, we are now "open for business" on the recruiting forums and will hopefully see an increase in activity over the coming weeks as queries from unofficial websites are directed here.

Hello, the best bet is to pop in to your local Armed forces Careers Office and have a chat about Royal Navy acquaint visit opportunities and career option. Now is as good a time as any, or during Half Term.

Welcome to the forum Sade.
Whilst the local Royal Navy Reserve unit in London may have open days to give an insight to those considering joining the Maritime Reserves, geographically the Royal Navy, besides Navy Days in Portsmouth or Plymouth can only offer insight courses (Look at Life courses) to groups in full time education or Pre Royal Navy Courses [PRNC] to those who  have entered into the selection process and been allocated an entry date. The Look at Life Courses are usually in Rosyth, Scotland or Fareham, Portsmouth.

Hello, my name is Tomasi Dravikula. I'am 22 years old. I'm from Fiji and I'm interested to join the Royal Navy. If there's still some intake to join the Royal Navy I'm interested to join in not as a Reserved Navy because my passport won't be last longer to live in the UK until May to return back to Fiji. I'm willing and interested to join in the Royal Navy.

Hello
there's  no postcode for my country in oder to complete my application form

As long as you enter your correct address details, including country, the easiest way to bypass the postcode field is to enter the address after clicking the "overseas" tab if you do not have a UK residential address.

Hi Alan. No you are not. I'm 32 this year and looking to apply when I'm 33. I'd apply sooner but I have a couple of medical issues that I need to have a certain time frame of clearance before I can apply as I do not wish to hinder my application. My fitness levels also need massively improving so I'm happy to use the time to build that up. I believe you have up until your 37th birthday (you must in phase 1 training by the time you reach 37)

Best of luck!

Different branches have different upper age limits, but as correctly stated, for those joining the regular service with no prior military experience, the upper age is up to and including your 37th birthday on the day of entry. Regardless of age on entry, for Ratings, the initial contract is for up to twelve years.

The RNR and RFA permit much wider age parameters for those already over age 37.

The predicted entry date is best advised by your AFCO as they will know your individual circumstances. Entry dates are dependant on branch waiting times & whether or not there were any hold-ups during selection. The PRNC is not requested until an entry date is allocated.

Hi, the best bet is to speak to your AFCO regarding your PRNC. There are currently no threads about your particular entry date - by all means start one.

Commonwealth citizens, regardless of ethnicity, applying after 1st March 2017 require 5 years UK residency before eligible to join the Naval Service.

Hi I'm Libby Clayton and I am 12 years old I live in England and I just wanted to know what type of training and missions you do (if that's even what you call them :,))because I really want to join the Marines but if I do join I'm a bit nervous because of what type of things happen but does the training make you prepared for everything that goes on and are there any expectations from us? Thanks for reading :)

Hello Libby, Royal Marines Commandos undergo the longest infantry training of any NATO country and are reputed to be one of the most highly regarded combat infantry units.

Training is gruelling and arduous however those successfully completing training and earning their green beret are possibly amongst the best trained "combat ready" infantry personnel in UK, ready to operationally deploy worldwide at very short notice and able to cope unsupported pending the arrival of more conventional Armed Forces personnel.

Those aspiring to join the Corps should be under no illusion as to the physical and mental demands placed upon them and, at your age, are advised to participate in team sports activities in school, together with regular runs, swims and cycles to maintain a reasonable level of fitness. The secret is gradual improvement and don't try to do too much just remain active and enjoy your sports.
