Role details

What you’ll do

Logistics is the backbone of the Royal Navy. It’s your job to work closely with your Logistics Officer to make sure your crewmates have what they need, when they need it – wherever you are in the world. But being a logistician in the Submarine Service is different. A submarine’s first defence is stealth, so giving away its position is a huge consideration. Trips to the surface are for food supplies and your crewmates’ morale. These vital factors, and millions of pounds-worth of equipment, are in your hands. Without you, the submarine wouldn’t – and couldn’t – be operational.

Your role

  • You’ll learn all the skills you need to ensure your submarine has everything it needs to be operationally effective, regardless of the rigours of the highly classified mission you’re deployed on
  • Learn about managing a complex global supply chain, and how to source the items you need, all over the world
  • Learn additional skills as an Incident Board operator, helping damage-control teams fight fires and floods
  • Stay up to date with industry best practice, gaining internationally recognised qualifications, including an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Warehousing and Storage

Pay & benefits

  • A £5,000 bonus for earning your ‘Dolphins’ - the mark of a Submariner
  • A salary of at least £23,000 as soon as you finish training
  • Potential earnings of £68,000
  • Additional Submariner pay each day at sea when fully qualified
  • An excellent pension scheme
  • Six weeks of paid holiday every year
  • Free medical and dental care

  • Gain specialist vocational qualifications as your career progresses, like an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Warehousing and Storage, and work towards becoming a member of a number of professional organisations such as the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport

Skills you'll develop

  • The ability to lead and manage multiple, high-pressure projects at the same time, being at once proactive and reactive, but never losing your cool head – or sight of the bigger picture
  • You’ll develop teamwork of the highest level and a pin-sharp eye for detail under the most testing conditions, learning the intricacies of global supply chain management
