        BRNC Dartmouth

        The College’s contribution to defence today is as relevant as ever, through Initial Officer Training, enduring leadership training, and support to Defence Diplomacy outputs through the training of International Officers from over 20 Navies.

        Henry Duffy

        Henry Duffy

        Military experience

        Henry Duffy joined the Royal Navy in 1987 as a Naval College Entrant. In his early years he served in HMS Peacock a Hong Kong Patrol Craft, HMS Liverpool as OOW and Navigator and as the Royal Naval Liaison Officer at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He also undertook the All Arms Commando Course and was subsequently awarded the coveted Green Beret.

        In 1998 he qualified as a Principal Warfare Officer specialising in Communications and Electronic Warfare, assigned to HMS Sheffield the ship contributed to the hurricane relief effort in the aftermath of Hurricane Mitch in the Caribbean. He next served in HMS Invincible as Group Warfare Officer, then after successfully graduating from the Advance Command and Staff Course joined the United Kingdom Maritime Battle Staff during which time he deployed to the Middle East as part of Operation Telic, the liberation of Iraq.

        In 2004 he assumed Command of HMS Dumbarton Castle in the Falkland Islands. Post a fascinating 6 months down South he subsequently Commanded the Type 42 destroyer HMS Liverpool, taking the Ship to deployment on operations in the South Atlantic. During his time in Command of Liverpool he had the honour of hosting Her Majesty the Queen during a State visit to Estonia.

        Beyond Command he served in the Ministry of Defence as the T45 Destroyer Desk Officer and as Programmer in the Capability Sponsor Area, his time in MOD included involvement in the Strategic Defence and Security Review. Beyond the MOD he completed a tour in the Fleet Personnel area as ‘Cdr X’, the Warfare Officers Appointer, before taking up his appointment as Captain Surface Ships, Portsmouth in December 2011. Captain Duffy assumed Command of Britannia Royal Naval College in February 2014.

        When Capt Duffy, his wife Lisa and their 2 beautiful boys, Henry and Finn, are not in Dartmouth they live in Southsea. Hobbies include long distance cycling, boards (surf and snow); he is also a passionate supporter of Liverpool Football Club and the English Rugby team.
