HMS Montrose is now back in the public eye after an extensive multi-million pound 9 month Upkeep period.  The Upkeep saw significant improvements in capability and efficiency as well as a large turnover of personnel.  With a complement of approximately 175 we have a young and vibrant Ship's Company who are ready for the challenges lying ahead.

Commencing sea trials in September 2009 in order to test the Ship’s machinery and new equipment, HMS Montrose returned to her Base Port, Devonport, in mid October 2009.  The new Commanding Officer, Cdr J D Lett RN, assumed Command of HMS Montrose in December 2009.

On 11 February 2010 HMS Montrose was confirmed by Navy Command to be in a satisfactory material condition and was formally accepted back in to the operational Fleet.

In preparation for deployment later this year, HMS Montrose’s capabilities will be put to the test by the FOST staff (Flag Officer Sea Training) operating in the areas off the South West coast of England.  This physically & mentally demanding period of BOST (Basic Operational Sea Training) will require the highest standards from the Ship’s Company in order to turn HMS Montrose into a highly effective operational Frigate of the Royal Navy.

On completion of BOST HMS Montrose and her Ship’s Company will be fully equipped and ready to deal with any emerging scenario whilst deployed.

The ship's motto is " Mare ditat rosa decorat" (The sea enriches and the rose adorns).
