HMS Montrose has been out of the public gaze during an extensive 9 month Upkeep period at the Rosyth Docks in Scotland.
Over this time there has been a large turnover of personnel and there are many new faces in the Ship’s Company and every body is ready for new challenges ahead. With a complement of approximately 175 we have a young and vibrant Ship's Company who moved back onboard on 20 July 2009.
HMS Montrose is currently undergoing sea trials and will return to base port in Plymouth to rejoin the active fleet at the end of October 2009. Come the New Year the Ship’s Company will be preparing for deployment later in the year.
To achieve this they will be put through their paces by the staff of Flag Officer Sea Training, Plymouth, operating in the areas off the South West Coast of England. This demanding period will simulate the full array of scenarios that an operational Frigate of the Royal Navy would encounter when deployed and called on to enforce international law through Maritime Security Operations such as counter-terrorism and counter-piracy. To achieve this the ship has a comprehensive suite of updated weapons, sensors and machinery; however it is the men and women making up the Ship’s Company who make Montrose a truly versatile and capable warship.
The ship's motto is " Mare ditat rosa decorat" (The sea enriches and the rose adorns).
