Mission Statement
To provide Diving, Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Underwater Engineering to the Fleet.
The Northern and Southern Diving Groups are responsible for all diving, demolition and Explosive Ordnance Disposal carried out by the Royal Navy within UK waters providing a rapid response team 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The groups also undertake underwater engineering in support of the surface and sub-surface Fleet on a planned and emergency basis.
It is the task of the Northern and Southern diving group to supply bomb disposal duties for the Royal Navy and support civilian agencies such as the Police and Coast Guard. Each Group takes responsibility to provide 24 hour, 365 days cover to its allocated area. The Southern Diving Group is however broken down into two smaller areas covered by Southern Diving Units 1 in Plymouth (also the Group Headquaters) and 2 in Portsmouth.
