Welcome to Defender’s homepage. The Royal Navy’s fifth Type 45 Destroyer designed for air defence. Defender is a Daring class destroyer being one of the most advanced air-defence classes in the world. The capabilities of the ship include the Sampson multi-function radar which can detect targets as far out as 400km and the PAAMS missile system. The Type 45 class is the largest and most powerful air defence destroyers ever operated by the Royal Navy.
Defender built by BVT Surface Fleet in Govan shipyard, joins her sister ships and is the eighth ship to bear the name.
