Welcome to Dauntless's homepage. The Royal Navy's second Type 45 Destroyer to be built and the fifth Royal Navy ship to bear the name (the sixth if you include the HMS Dauntless featured in The Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)). The ship was launched on 23 January 2007 by the Ship's Sponsor, Lady Mary Burnell-Nugent.
Dauntless is currently in dock at BAE Systems, Scotstoun, Glasgow, undergoing extensive fitting out, where she has completed both sets of her Stage One Sea Trials. Expected to make her first entry into her base port Portsmouth in Dec 2009, Dauntless will enter service the following year. Along with her sister ships, the Type 45 AAW Destroyers represent the most powerful ships ever built for the Royal Navy - they will deliver a step change in air defence capability.
The Ship’s Motto is: Nil Desperandum ('Never Despair')
