Haiti Diary

It rained heavily for the first time last night, signalling that the wet season is not far away. The priority has to be shelter.  A visit to Centre Ville a couple of days ago saw every spare piece of land covered in makeshift camps.

Day 14 in the big green tent. We left the shores of the UK two weeks ago today, and it seems a lot longer.

The self-styled COMBRITFOR ( Combined British Force) is reverting to ‘type’ and now busying himself with arranging the Team’s first RPC function.

The general feeling around the camps, compounds and Port-Au-Prince itself is that the situation is improving albeit slowly.  With the scale of devastation seen when the team travels around the city and its surroundings,

We continue to make friends with the military from the other nations, it is like being in a club amongst the Aid agencies .

Today was one of sadness as we lost the majority of our team as they returned to ‘blighty’ after a job well done.

A day of mixed feelings and of battles won and lost. The first of these was a battle of the 2 titans:  one from the Royal Navy element of the Joint Forces Headquarters

After joining Joint Force Headquarters a matter of 3 weeks earlier, the organisation has swung into action and deployed to Haiti in support of Department for International Development.
