8 May: Centenary Service at St Paul's Cathedral

Royal Navy Commemorated Centenary of Naval Aviation  

Over 2,400 current serving and former serving members of the Fleet Air Arm, their guests and families attended a Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate the Centenary of Naval Aviation in St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday 8 May 2009.

7 - 11 May: Naval Aviation comes to the capital

Fireworks display This year’s Centenary of Naval aviation celebrations in London 7 – 11 May were a great success with over 20,000 members of the public watching the flypast over HMS Illustrious on 7 May or visiting the static display of Naval aircraft in the ground of the Old Royal Naval College.

Fly navy 100 Garden Party Royal Garden Party At Buckingham Palace Thursday 9 July 2009.

To celebrate and commemorate the Centenary of Naval Aviation in the Royal Navy, Her Majesty The Queen has given gracious permission to hold a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

Commemorative Flypasts

A variety of aircraft are due to take part in flypasts throughout 2009 to mark the Centenary of Naval Aviation.  Modern and Historic aircraft, from training squadrons and the front line as well as from the Royal Navy Historic Flight will combine in unique formations.

Culdrose Air Day 2009    The Culdrose Air Day is always a highlight of the aviation year, and 2009 promises to be no exception as Naval Aviation’s 100th year is celebrated in one of Europe’s largest Naval Air Stations.

October:  HMS Illustrious in Liverpool

HMS IllustriousHMS Illustrious, the Nation’s Strike Carrier will be paying a high profile visit to Liverpool from 22 – 27 October 2009 as the centrepiece of the Royal Navy’s continuing celebrations to mark this year’s Centenary of Naval Aviation.

Fixed Wing Dinner

Fixed Wing Dinner   The Sea Harrier Association and Fleet Air Arm Buccaneer Association are jointly holding a Fleet Air Arm Fixed Wing Dinner on the 31st October 2009 at the WO&SRs Mess, HMS Heron.  The event is for any Rating or Officer who has served on any Naval Fixed Wing Squadron from Bristol Scout to JCA.

Tickets are £20 per person limited at 2 tickets at present.  Further tickets may be purchased closer to the event if demand allows.  All profits from this event will go to the FAA Heritage Trust and St Barts Church.
