Black Cats Helicopter Display Team

The Black Cats are an exciting helicopter display team who thrill audiences at air shows with their dynamic flying displays in Wildcat helicopters. The Team started in 2001 as the ‘Lynx Pair’ and have been the first official Royal Navy flying display team since the ‘Sharks’ disbanded in the mid-1990s.

Winning several awards over the years, the Black Cats are requested to display all over the UK and at many European air shows. The aircrew and engineers are all volunteers from 825 Naval Air Squadron and the Lynx Wildcat Maritime Force based at the Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton in Somerset.

The name ‘Black Cats’ is derived from the fierce cat depicted on the now disbanded 702 Naval Air Squadron emblem and the term ‘blackcatting’ which is naval slang for one-upmanship – doing or owning something better than someone else.

The black Cats Helicopter Display for the 2024 display programme is currently being ratified. Once this process has been completed, we will notify all of those who have booked the Black Cats whether they have/haven’t been successful with their application. If you are interested in booking the Black Cats Display Team for 2025, please get in touch by contacting the team at [email protected]

Did you know? The Royal Navy can also provide Merlin and Wildcat helicopters, King Air and Grob aircraft; in either a flypast or static capacity, for your event or air show. Feel free to contact us on the same email address as above and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
