Royal Marines Reserve City of London have welcomed their new Commanding Officer who takes over from Lieutenant Colonel Ed Moorhouse, who moves on to a new appointment at Northwood in North London.
The new man in charge, Lieutenant Colonel Reggie Turner assumes command of London’s Royal Marines Reserve Unit after serving as Deputy Chief of Staff with 3 Commando Brigade Headquarters, based in Plymouth.
Lt Col Reggie Turner joined the Royal Marines as a University Cadet in 1991 and on graduation from City University London completed Royal Marines Officer training at Commando Training Centre in Devon where he was awarded the prestigious Commando Medal.
His first Unit was 45 Commando (Cdo) RM in Scotland where he served as a Troop Commander and Company Second-in-Command. This included deployments to Norway, Brunei, the USA and the Caribbean.
Following an operational tour in Bosnia, attached to the Cavalry, he was appointed to 42 Cdo during which the Unit operationally deployed to Sierra Leone in support of the UN Mission. On return to UK, he served as an Instructor with the Army at Warminster.
After Junior Staff College in 2002 he joined Commander United Kingdom Amphibious Forces (COMUKAMPHIBFOR), swiftly followed by further Regimental Duty as the Adjutant of 42 Cdo and marriage.
Two years at Fleet HQ ensued after which he returned back to 42 Cdo as Company Commander of Juliet Company and completed a tour of duty in Afghanistan on Operation Herrick.
This was immediately followed by a year at the USMC Command and Staff Course at Quantico. On return to UK he worked in the ISTAR Capability Branch at MOD.
On promotion to Lieutenant Colonel Reggie was appointed to Navy Logistics at Navy Command HQ, after which he served as the RM Branch Manager and Deputy Chief of Staff 3 Commando Brigade.
He assumed command of RMR City of London on 3rd March 2017. Married to Adrienne, they have two mischievous daughters who keep their parents ‘on their toes’. Interests include cycling, skiing and all things automotive.
“I am delighted to have the privilege to command RMR City of London,” said Lt Col Turner. “I arrive at the Unit at an exciting point and look forward to working with the broad range of stakeholders across the capital.
“My Reservists will be working more closely with Brigade to deliver operational output as well as three new London RM Cadet Units that are to open in the near future.
“Only last week Vice Chief of the Defence Staff (VCDS) General Messenger formally opened our RM Centre for Urban Tactics and Climbing, (CUTAC) which will enable Royal Marine Reserve ranks to develop their urban tactical skills on site, and provide an opportunity to train alongside other specialists from the blue light community.”
