The Second Sea Lord Admiral Jonathan Woodcock has paid a visit to UTC Portsmouth (University Technical College) to view the new facilities on offer to future students.

Admiral Woodcock said, "The Royal Navy is an enthusiastic partner of this state of the art college and is supporting practically. We are offering all students of UTC Portsmouth hands-on engineering experience, and leadership coaching in order to inspire their academic learning."

He added, "The facilities are first-rate and the ethos embraces the same qualities of excellence that we aspire to in the Royal Navy."

The UTC Principal, Ciaran O'Dowda explained that £12M of investment means that students can study for a range of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) qualifications and A-levels.

He confirmed that there are no fees and that the UTC enjoys a number of advantages including Computer Aided Design labs, access to robotic facilities, and industry sponsorship.

“Students will work and play hard but above all, they will be able to engineer their own futures," he added.

There are a few remaining places for year 12.
