Another successful year of charity fundraising for HMS Scotia

At their recent training evening, the Ship’s Company of HMS Scotia presented Macmillan Cancer Support with a cheque for £2650.00 - the result of their fundraising efforts during 2016.

This is the twenty first year in a row that HMS Scotia has selected Macmillan as its primary charity.  Commanding Officer, Commander (Cdr) Thomas Knowles, and Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Henry Gibson presented the cheque to Ms Michelle Campbell.

“This money will go to the charity’s Forth Valley and Fife office.  It will help with nursing and the one-to-one services that we offer, not just to sufferers but to their family and friends,” said Ms Campbell.

CPO Gibson has championed fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support and Naval Service charities, as part of HMS Scotia’s contribution to the local community.  Scotia reservists come from across East Central Scotland and have fundraised through a variety of sporting and social activities.

“This is a great way to get everyone in the ship involved in something really worthwhile. It keeps the ship and the RNR in the public eye and the fundraising makes a real difference - that’s why we do it,” said CPO Gibson.

“Fundraising is a really important part of our work at HMS Scotia. We don’t do it just to support charities, but because it’s a great opportunity to give something back to the community,” added Cdr Knowles.
