Whitstable RNA Visit HMS Kent

Topic: Fighting armsSurface Fleet

During a busy visit to her home town of Dover, HMS Kent hosted the Whitstable branch of the RNA, showing the former sailors and Royal Marines life on board the Royal Navy’s premier warship.

Among the 16 visitors were former logisticians, engineers and WRNS who took the opportunity to talk to their modern counterparts.

They were also joined by some family members of former service personnel.

CPOET(WE) Andrew Beattie, 45 from Fareham, said “It was great to meet them all and show them round, and they had some fantastic stories to tell.

"Of course there are some similarities between the generations, but it was certainly a different time”.

Organiser and host, Junior Marine Engineer Officer SLt Edward Smith, said “The visitors certainly enjoyed themselves and were fascinated by what they saw.

"Given the natural geographic link, we’re hoping to be able to maintain the connection between HMS Kent and the Whitstable branch."
