HMS Collingwood personnel compete in annual triathlon

Sailors and civilians across HMS Collingwood recently competed in the establishment’s annual triathlon.

The event, which is in its third consecutive year, was organised by personnel from the establishment’s Sports and Recreational Centre.

The afternoon saw 54 individuals of all ranks and ages take part and kicked off inside the centre with participants diving into a 200 metre swim in the establishment’s Olympic-size pool.

Next, in the warmth of the September sun, the participants set off on the second leg of the competition which saw the start of an intense 5 mile cycle across the establishment.

Participants were relentless in their efforts as they hopped off their bikes to finally endure a 1.25 mile run to the finish line.

Leading Physical Trainer Dan Appleby, who oversaw the event, said “It’s a great chance for all the departments, including civvies to compete against one another. It’s great to get people away from their desk and be active.”

Lieutenant Commander Jason Holroyd, who was participating in the triathlon for the first time, commented “I feel elated to be able to say I’ve completed a triathlon. I am now asking myself why I haven’t done this sooner!”

The Eastern Region Triathlon on Wednesday 19 October follows the Collingwood event, with the winners and runners up of each category representing the establishment.

The winners and their times were as follows:
