Royal Marines exercise - noise advice

Residents and others along the coast of south coast of Devon and Cornwall are advised of possible disturbance from live firing at sea from a Royal Marines exercise for a week from today (Friday 2nd December).

Members of Plymouth –based 1 Assault Group Royal Marines (1AGRM) will be conducting a blank-firing exercise along the S Coast between Dartmouth and Fowey between today and next Friday.

White flare illuminations may also be used to help the exercise.  Relevant agencies such as HM Coastguard and other authorities will be informed.

A spokesman said: “We apologise in advance for any disturbance from the firing that might occur.  However, the blank firing will be taking place as part of the essential vocational career courses we run for Royal Marines landing craftsmen.

"The next generation of Royal Marines landing craft coxswains and commanders are being trained. These exercises are a vital part of their development and validation.’’

As early notice, here is a list of destinations and days in broad outline:

  • Today (25th): Tregantle and River Yealm in SE Cornwall.
  • Saturday (26th): Start Point, River Dart. Salcombe and Southpool.
  • Sunday (27th):  Looe and Fowey.
  • Monday (28th): Looe, Pentewan, Bodinnick
  • Tuesday (29th): Jenny Cliff, Plymouth.
