Scottish Naval Base Supports Grand Prix of the seas

Scotland’s largest military establishment is pushing the boat out to support the Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea off Greenock on 18-19 June 2016.

P2000 patrol boat HMS Archer, police and tug boats from HM Naval Base Clyde – home of the UK Submarine Service – will be all at sea for two days in front of an estimated 30,000 spectators.

The Base’s police team will be working with the Clyde Coastguard to support the safety and security of the event, with a tug boat putting on a display of its fire-fighting capabilities – spectacularly shooting high pressure jets of water hundreds of feet into the air.

HMS Archer, and sailors from  West of Scotland’s Royal Navy Reserve Unit, HMS Dalriada, will also raise the profile of the Senior Service at the event.

“It made perfect sense to us as part of the Scottish Maritime Community to be able to meet the organiser’s request to play a part in supporting this very exciting maritime event,” said Commodore Mark Gayfer, Naval Base Commander Clyde.
