Naval engineers help keep Sea Cadets afloat with cash boost

Generous engineers at HM Naval Base Clyde recently helped support local Sea Cadets with a cash donation.

The Royal Navy Engineers’ Quart Club held their annual charity dinner at HM Naval Base Clyde’s Wardroom in March. 

During the event they held a raffle with prizes donated by 41 different local businesses.  

The dinner and raffle raised £250 for Helensburgh Sea Cadets. 

“The funding will allow the unit to purchase equipment aiding the cadets in their adventurous training,” said Lieutenant Lesley Leckie RNR, Commanding Officer of the Helensburgh Sea Cadets.

“We are grateful to the Quart Club for this kind donation,” she continued. “As a registered charity we support 40 cadets with the aim of furthering their nautical and leadership skills. We are immensely grateful for donations that help us keep afloat.”

Quart Club Chairman, Lieutenant Commander Rob Prideaux, who presented the cheque, said, “The Sea Cadets support the Quart Club on the evening of the Fundraising Dinner by selling raffle tickets.  

"We have found that their attendance raises our fundraising tremendously and we are more than happy to have been able to support their endeavours.”

The charity raffle was organised by Lieutenant Commander Prideaux with help from fellow Quart Club member Lieutenant Commander Andy Mole.  

Speaking of the prizes, Rob said, “The donations received were of such high quality and for that I thank those local businesses who gave so generously. The response was overwhelming with donations kindly provided by a large number of local shops and services. They were instrumental in raising a substantial amount during the night.”
