Navy engineer officer supports engineering challenge

Lieutenant Kieran Lewis, an Engineering Principles Instructor at HMS Collingwood, Fareham, spent the day at Cowplain Community College recently to support an engineering challenge event.

As a Science Technology Engineering Maths (STEM) Ambassador Kieran was asked to assist at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Faraday Challenge being held the Cowplain College, which is local to where he lives, and jumped at the opportunity to inspire young students in engineering.

The IET Faraday Challenge is a national competition where year 7 students (11 year olds) have to utilise the BBC Micro:Bit to come up with 2 prototype’s to improve the quality of life in one of 4 industrial areas, Sport, Health, Transport and Lifestyle. 

As a STEM Ambassador Kieran was utilised as an Engineering Consultant to assist the teams in developing a solid project, assisting in their development of an end product.
