Men and women of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines have been recognised for their public service in the New Year Honours List 2017.
A total of 23 naval personnel representing a cross section of the service have been named in this year's honours list.

One of those to receive an honour is Commodore Inga Kennedy, who has been appointed CBE in recognition of her long and distinguished career, and for the work she has done for Defence Medical Services.
She currently serves as the Inspector General, responsible for inspecting medical departments across the armed forces, including everything from the sick bay of a naval base to medical units deployed abroad and ships at sea.
Cdre Kennedy said: ‘I feel shocked and quite emotional to have been given this honour, it’s not something I ever thought I would receive. It came completely out of the blue but I feel humbled and privileged to receive it, particularly as I was a reasonably late entry to the Royal Navy.
‘I was a reservist for a long time, then I did two years of reserve service and then came in full time, and that was only 16 years ago. My family are all absolutely thrilled for me and I’m not even sure it has sunk in for me yet but I am certainly looking forward to collecting the honour next year.’
Serving as HMS Queen Elizabeth's Senior Naval Officer while the ship first underwent construction was privilege enough for Captain Simon Petitt. But he says he is now 'humbled and honoured' to have been appointed OBE in recognition of his vital efforts in the early stages of the aircraft carrier's life.
Capt Petitt joined HMS Queen Elizabeth in 2012, when it was still in the early stages of its construction. As Senior Naval Officer, he was responsible for building the crew, breathing life into the ship and ensuring she will be ready for operations in her future years.
Having joined with a team of 10 sailors, Capt Petitt left the ship more than three years later with a crew of around 600. He now serves as the most senior engineer of the Portsmouth flotilla.
He said: ‘I feel humbled and honoured to receive this award. It was a hugely proud moment for me to become the senior naval officer on board HMS Queen Elizabeth in the first place and this is just the icing on the cake.
‘The success we achieved during that time is down to the people I served with up in Scotland as we watched the ship progress and grow in size and I couldn’t have done it without them.
‘My time on board HMS Queen Elizabeth was incredible and, like everybody who has been working on this ship in its earliest days, I will have an attachment to that ship that will last a lifetime.
‘The equipment and technology is like the nothing the Royal Navy has ever seen before and I am very much looking forward to seeing her enter Portsmouth for the first time next year.’
