Young Officers training at Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) are preparing to head off on a mercy mission to Kenya.
The group of seven, accompanied by a member of staff, will travel to Kitale in the North Western region of the country, where they will spend 10 days working for the Mercy Rescue Trust.
The Trust operates a 25-bed rescue centre for abandoned and abused children, nurturing them back to health before finding loving families to adopt them.
During their time there the team will be involved in a building project to create more accommodation and help the charity expand its capabilities.
They will also carry out a range of activities with the children being cared for by the Trust and those in the local community, which will include sports coaching, arts and crafts and various other fun activities.
The team has worked hard to raise the money to fund their trip and are thankful to all of those who have contributed to make the expedition possible.
Other staff at the College and members of the public have shown their generosity by supporting various events including a sports evening hosted by the Rugby Club, the BRNC Christmas Raffle and a band night hosted in the College.
The Young Officers are now looking forward to their departure (Thursday 8 December) and are eager to begin working with such a noble cause.
Lieutenant Tim Curnock, BRNC’s Flight Training Officer who will be accompanying the team, said: “This expedition will be an excellent opportunity for these seven Young Officers to put all that they have learned at the College in the last 45 weeks into action, while also helping a very worthy little charity.”
