WRNS 100 Commemoration Service Portsmouth Cathedral

A Service of Thanksgiving to commemorate the formation of the Women’s Royal Naval Service (WRNS) and the continuing role of women in the Naval Service today, will be held at Portsmouth Cathedral followed by afternoon tea at Portsmouth Guildhall on Sat 4 Nov 2017. The Commemorative Stone will be dedicated during the Cathedral service.

The event is open to both serving personnel, who are requested to wear 1B uniform,  and those who have previously served.

The Cathedral seats 800 and for security reasons this will be a pre-booked ticketed event, although there is no charge.   The service will be followed by afternoon tea in the Guildhall for which a ticket (cost £11.50) will be required.

Demand for the Cathedral service tickets and the separate afternoon tea tickets are expected to be high. Interested people are to complete the application form and return to the address indicated by no later than 1 December 2016.  All ticket applications will be treated on a first come first served basis.     If you are not allocated a ticket you will automatically be placed on a reserve list.

Successful applicants will be notified in early December 2016, with tickets and detailed instructions being despatched in June 2017.

An outline plan for the event is as follows:

•             1030 Guildhall opens to enable travelling guests to leave suitcases etc. in the Guildhall Cloakrooms, and use the bar and café before event starts.
•             Cathedral doors open at 1330, with guests to be seated by 1415.
•             During the service there will be an opportunity to view the Commemorative Stone
•             On completion of service make way to Portsmouth Guildhall for afternoon tea
•             1615 tea to be served in the Guildhall
•             An opportunity to review the Commemorative Stone donors’ book
•             2000 event finishes
