FULL OF PROMISE

Parents’ evening was always a bit of a drama in our house - Mum didn’t exactly come home with a smile on her face. It wasn’t that I didn’t like school, it’s just that none of the subjects really interested me. My teachers all said the same thing - I had lots of potential but I wasn’t making the effort. So when I started to think about joining the Royal Navy, part of me was expecting more of the same.

A REASON
TO LEARN

But as soon as I started with the Royal Navy I could see things were going to be different. Everything I did had a real reason behind it. Because, as a Weapons Engineer, if I can’t keep the missile systems working to protect the ship, there might not be a second chance.

MAKING MUM
PROUD

The school reports still get dragged up all the time when I’m at home. But nowadays I don’t mind so much. So when mum takes the mick out of me for being bad at geography, this time it is with a smile on her face. A proud smile.
