KEEN TO
GET GOING

I was keen to get a job as soon as I’d left sixth form. I got started working in the bar at a local golf club. But when it got boring I knew I needed more of a challenge. I looked into being a Steward with the Royal Navy. It promised much more than I could get anywhere else.

LEARNING
EVERY DAY

It’s not just the life and experiences that are different with the Royal Navy. I’m constantly learning – both on the job and in the classroom. I’ve picked up more academic qualifications, gained awards in food hygiene and hospitality management, learned how to look after VIPs like politicians and been trained in first aid to the same standard as a paramedic.

READY
FOR ANYTHING

I joined the submarine fleet because I wanted something completely different from what I’d had before. The crew is a complete unit. I help operate a nuclear submarine as well as serve the Captain, other officers and the chef. I’ve learnt enough to run a top London restaurant. But for now I’m sticking with the most interesting job I know.

“Stuck in my old job, I dreamed of doing something interesting. Now I’m doing it.”
