NAVAL AVIATION - PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE

The Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton International Air Day will take ‘Naval Aviation - Past, Present & Future’ as its over-arching theme.

There will be a number of Fleet Air Arm milestones during the year and Air Day’s acknowledgement of these will include:

Bismarck 75 – The Swordfish, regarded as an obsolescent aircraft during WW2, participated in the pursuit and sinking of the German battleship Bismarck 75 years ago.

Lynx Farewell – The venerable Lynx maritime helicopters which will be out of service in March 2017 will be making their last appearance, and a fitting one, in front of their home crowd at Air Day.

Tomorrow’s Fleet Air Arm – Air Day will provide an insight into what the future holds for the Fleet Air Arm.  The next five years are indeed exciting times as the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth prepares to enter service.  This will mark the return of the Royal Navy’s carrier strike capabilities as well as providing another helicopter assault ship platform.

Over five hours of flying displays and an extensive static display will feature historic naval aircraft and their modern day counterparts in role demonstrations to acknowledge the contribution from the Fleet Air Arm to Protect Our Nation’s Interests.

Display Aircraft

There will be over 5 hours of extensive flying displays featuring civilian and military operated historic, classic and modern aircraft types.

Yeovilton based Commando Helicopter Force, Lynx Wildcat Maritime Force and Aviation Reconnaissance Force will demonstrate their capabilities during various role demonstrations including the famous Commando Assault Demonstration with plenty of pyrotechnics!

Further UK and foreign military participants will provide fast jet displays, static aircraft, aerobatic display teams and joint flypasts.

Participants who have indicated their intention to attend the airshow will be announced here as they are confirmed.

Please note that whilst an aircraft may be shown as confirmed the aircraft operator may withdraw the aircraft with little or no notice, without providing any reason. This is beyond the control of the Organisers.
