40 Commando
40 Commando is a battalion sized Unit providing part of 3 Commando Brigade’s amphibious warfare capability. Based near Taunton, Somerset, 40 Commando’s recent deployments have been to the Sangin region of Helmand Province followed by Operation Cougar in the Mediterranean showing that it is an elite and flexible Unit able to deploy anywhere in the world’

Military experience
Joined the Royal Marines in 1994 before completing the 14 months Officer Basic Training and receiving a Green Beret. He was then appointed to 40 Cdo where he cut his teeth as a troop commander. After training new recruits and passing on his experience, Lt Col Jackson returned to 40 Cdo as Company Commander and led Bravo Company on 2 tours of Iraq and on exercise in Norway and the USA. Returning once again to 40 Commando, he is commanding the Unit on the Amphibious Op Cougar before preparing for Afghanistan.
He actively races at indoor rowing competitions and has great intentions of racing at some slalom water-skiing competitions sometime soon. Other hobbies include: telemarking, rugby, and the odd game of rather amateur squash.

The Royal Marines of 40 Commando are training in the harsh, arid conditions of the American desert.
Cougar Deployment
CURRENT STATUS: COMPLETED
Cougar is an amphibious task force exercising in the Mediterranean and Middle East. This task group is the vanguard of the UK’s maritime contingent capability and held at very high readiness to respond to unexpected global events.
Operation Herrick
CURRENT STATUS: COMPLETED
Operation Herrick is the code-name for the work UK Forces have been doing in Afghanistan since 2002, working to bring about stability in the country and maintain the forces of law and order, pushing back the Taliban and preventing them from using the country as a base for terrorism.
