Commodore Mark Slawson took command of the Defence College of Electro-Mechanical Engineering, and HMS Sultan in March 2010.

Born and raised in Wrexham in North Wales, Mark Slawson trained at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth and in HMS Fearless, and graduated with a degree in Naval Engineering from the Royal Naval Engineering College, Manadon. After obtaining his engineering watchkeeping qualifications in HMS Torquay, his first sea job was in HMS Nottingham.
Following RN Staff Course, he joined the Fleet Headquarters staff in Northwood as Deputy Fleet Operations Maintenance Officer, before being promoted to Commander. He served as a staff officer to the Chief Executive of the Warship Support Agency and followed this with a further sea charge job as Commander (Engineering) in HMS Ocean.
He was promoted to Captain in 2004 and served as Superintendent Fleet Maintenance in Portsmouth Naval Base until becoming Assistant Director (Engineering) in the Directorate of Naval Career Management . He was selected for Commodore in 2008, and took command of the Defence College of Electro-Mechanical Engineering, and HMS SULTAN, in March 2010. On 1 September 2010, he was appointed Aide de Camp to Her Majesty the Queen.
