Having successfully completed her first patrol of the New Year, Offshore Patrol Vessel HMS Severn arrived in Cardiff on the 15th of January for an Operational Stand Down Period.
While in Cardiff Severn was proud to receive onboard the Ship’s sponsor, Professor Felicity Guild, and her husband, Admiral Nigel Guild, who were onboard to present awards to two valued members of the Ship’s Company.
The first was to the Marine Engineering Officer, WO1ET(ME) David Pooley, presented with an award from the Institute of Engineering in recognition of his vast knowledge and experience in engineering after more than 30 years of service in the Royal Navy and for his invaluable contribution as Severn’s Marine Engineering Officer over the last 12 months.
The second was to POET(ME) Mark ‘Roy’ Hattersley, presented with his Long Service and Good Conduct medal in recognition of his outstanding service since joining the Royal Navy in 1996.
Since then PO Hattersley has served in several ships before joining Severn in 2011. As well as proving himself to be a valuable and highly competent engineer, he is always cheerful and provides a constant source of morale to the Ship’s Company.
After receiving their awards WO1ET(ME) D Pooley and POET(ME) M Hattersley and their families had lunch with Severn’s Commanding Officer, Lt Cdr Marcus Hember and the Guests of Honour.
