More about the ship

The ship's programme is driven by the requirement to train undergraduates from both Aberdeen and the Robert Gordon University in the maritime environment and to provide opportunities to learn a variety of seamanship skills.

HMS Archer

Once at sea in and around Scottish waters the students have opportunities to take control of the ship under the watchful eyes of the trainers. Navigation training, man overboard exercises, even helicopter winching can be part of the term time weekly afternoon programme while engine breakdown drills and steering gear failures are routinely practised. Weekends are always active when the the students embark HMS Archer for visits to regional ports, remaining fully focused on putting into practice at sea what has been learned in the classroom on drill nights.

The weekly drill night is on Thursday evenings, from 7pm to 9pm.
