When a ship says goodbye to the Royal Navy it is always a sad day. On her last entry into her home port, the ship flies a decommissioning pennant (also known as the 'paying off' pennant), and her final farewell involves a decommissioning ceremony when ship's company, previous commanding officers and affiliates gather to commemorate the hard work and dedication of her life in the Naval service, and to lower the White Ensign for the final time.
