        RFA Wave Ruler

        RFA Wave Ruler

        Designed to support the Royal Navy in global operations, which include amphibious warfare and anti-submarine operations; Wave Knight is a double-hulled tanker, which meets the current International Maritime Organisation legislation for protecting the environment. She has extensive aviation facilities and can carry an additional eight refrigerated 20’ containers when needed. She has a cargo capacity of 16,000 cubic metres, which include 3,000 cubic metres of aviation fuel, 380 cubic metres of fresh water, and 500 metres of dry cargo. She has a large one spot flight deck, hangar and maintenance facilities capable of supporting two Merlin helicopters. She is fully capable of self-defence, which a defensive fit which includes 30mm cannon and the ability to receive two Phalanx CIWS.

        MISSION SUMMARY

        The APT(N) task centres on Reassurance to UK Overseas dependent territories, providing Humanitarian and Disaster relief during the Core Hurricane Season (Jun-Nov) and conducting Counter Narcotic patrols as part of the wider international effort.

        • RFA Wave Ruler ruling the Caribbean waves02/12/11

          RFA Wave Ruler with its mixed RFA/RN ship’s company is on her way home after completing a successful operational deployment providing the UK Government’s presence to the Caribbean. The deployment included Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR), Wider Regional Engagement (WRE), conducting Counter Narcotics and Terrorism (CNT) operations and reassurance to the UK Oversees Territories (UKOTs), whilst fulfilling her role as Atlantic Patrol Task (S) (APT(S)) and Atlantic Patrol Task (N) (APT(N)).

        • RFA Wave Ruler – Winter Gunline Article18/11/11

          Wave Ruler departed the UK shores in February 2010, for a period as Atlantic Patrol Task (South) (APT(S)), arriving in San Carlos Water, in the Falkland Islands, in early March 2010.

          In mid May that year, the ship was re-tasked to sail north and undertake the role of APT(North), where she has remained patrolling the seas of the Caribbean returning to the UK in December 2011. This deployment has been as busy if not busier than previous visits to the region, delivering regional defence as well as experiencing some of the sights and sounds that this part of the world has to offer.
