RFA Gold Rover
This small fleet tanker represents one of the most successful designs of tanker used by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. She and her sister Black Rover were built to replenish RN ships with fuel, oil, aviation fuel, lubricants, fresh water and a limited amount of dry cargo and refrigerated stores. Gold Rover is one of the original five Admiralty-designed and commissioned ships. She is a small, versatile fleet tanker which can carry parcels as required of stores and supplies, including 340 tones of dry cargo including munitions and refrigerated stores. She is capable of fuelling a ship abeam or astern with automatic tensioning winches and two-ton stores jackstays. She is also fitted with a large, single spot flight deck for night and day operation, but without a hangar. Gold Rover and her sister Black Rover have proved to be worldwide fleet workhorses of the RFA for many years, powerful, reliable and fast, they handle well in a wide range of sea conditions.
