Eugene Morgan joined HMS President as a direct entry officer in January 1989 and was commissioned in June of that year. Following Junior Officer training, he completed officer of the watch training and served on a variety of Mine Counter Measure Vessels. Following the “Options for Change” restructuring of the RNR, Morgan was appointed to HMS Cottesmore where he served as an Officer of the Watch. Within HMS President he has held a number of training appointments, including Junior Officer Training officer. He was promoted to Lieutenant Commander in 2005

Lieutenant Commander Morgan undertook an operational tour of Iraq in 2007 and 2008 where he commanded a small unit supporting UK forces in MND (SE). On return from this deployment he was appointed Executive Officer of HMS President in May 2008. A second mobilisation, this time to Afghanistan in support of HERRICK 12/13, followed from September 2010 to January 2011. Eugene Morgan was promoted to Commander and assumed command of HMS President on 1 February 2011.

In civilian life, Eugene Morgan is a Director with BMT Defence Services Limited in Bath; an independent engineering consultancy company. He lives in Wotton Under Edge, Gloucester.

TRACK THE HISTORY OF SHIPS NAMED London - HMS President
  • The London Division

    The London Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve was established in 1903 on the 10th of November. Its first training night was held at Fishmongers' Hall. Further training took place on board HMS Buzzard, a sloop moored on the Thames.

  • Replaced

    This ship was replaced in 1911 by a Flower class corvette named HMS President.

  • HMS Chrysanthemum

    In the 1930’s, HMS President was joined by HMS Chrysanthemum and they became a familiar sight along London's Embankment.

  • Current Location

    In 1988, both HMS President and HMS Chrysanthemum were sold and the unit moved ashore to its current location which was formerly the P & O London ferry terminal.
