RMR Scotland

RMR Scotland is sub-divided into five detachments to enable Reservists to be drawn from the main areas of population within Scotland and Northern Ireland. The main detachment is Glasgow which is located alongside the HQ in Govan. The four remaining detachments are based in Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Belfast.


While maintaining all the infantry and amphibious skills of the Royal Marines, RMR Scotland also specialises in Assault Engineering and Civil Military Cooperation.

Military experience

Lt Col Graeme ‘Jock’ Fraser commissioned into the Royal Marines in 1993 having graduated from Aberdeen University. On completion of Royal Marine Young Officer training he joined 45 Commando Royal Marines as a Troop Commander deploying on operations to Kuwait and Northern Ireland.

During the following 10 years Lt Col Fraser held a number of regimental and specialist Landing Craft appointments culminating in sub-unit command. During this period he deployed on operations to Kosovo, Bosnia and Iraq (TELIC 1) in addition to participating in military training exercises in a range of environments from arctic Norway, to the Caribbean, Brunei, West Africa and the USA.

Lt Col Fraser attended the Advanced Command and Staff Course at Shrivenham in 2005/2006 concurrently gaining a Masters degree from Kings College London. He then joined Headquarters 3 Commando Brigade as SO2 Plans deploying to Afghanistan on Operation HERRICK 5 and then on a amphibious deployment as Chief of Staff to the Commander Landing Force. His next appointment was SO2 Operations on the 2* COMUKAMPHIBOR staff prior to returning to 3 Commando Brigade as the Second in Command of 40 Commando Royal Marines.

On promotion, Lt Col Fraser joined the Commander Amphibious Task Group staff as SO1 Amphibious Warfare deploying immediately on the largest UK Task Group deployment for over 10 years. This 5 month deployment included exercises in Cyprus, Turkey, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Brunei in addition to supporting coalition counter piracy operations off the Somali coast. Subsequent deployments included a return to arctic Norway and participation in a major amphibious exercise in the USA operating alongside the US Navy and Marine Corps.

Married with three young children, Lt Col Fraser lives in East Devon. He enjoys cycling, squash, scuba diving, winter sports and family time in the countryside. Lt Col Fraser assumed command of RMR Scotland in March 2012 on completion of an extended operational tour in the Middle East with the UK’s Permanent Joint Headquarters.
