RMR Bristol
RMR Bristol is divided into five detachments to enable Reservists to be drawn from the main areas of population within South West England and Wales. The main detachment is Bristol which is located alongside the HQ. The four remaining detachments are based in Poole, Plymouth, Cardiff and Lympstone (near Exeter).

Military experience
Rob Bucknall was educated at King’s College Taunton and Torquay Boy’s Grammar School and was commissioned into the Royal Marines in 1989 as a Direct Entry Officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Bucknall assumed command of RMR Bristol on 18 May 2011.
He is married to Tessa with whom he has one daughter. When toddler management allows he is a keen skier and enjoys ski-mountaineering, kayaking, and kite surfing.
In his early years, he served first as a Troop Commander in 40 Commando RM, then latterly as a Troop Commander and Company 2IC in Comacchio Group RM. Other command and training appointments have included: Mortar Troop 42 Commando RM (Northern Ireland); Platoon Commander at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst; Hunter Company at CTCRM; Landing Force Support Party in the Commando Logistic Regiment RM (Afghanistan and Second Gulf War) and Portsmouth Company at CTCRM.
On the staff he served as a UK Liason Officer in Bosnia, SO2 Security and Integrated Contingency Planning within HQRM; Chief of Staff of 101 Logistic Brigade and the National Support Element MND(SE) (Iraq); and Amphibious Advisor to Commander UAE Naval Forces.
He has wide environmental experience is a qualified Jungle Warfare Instructor and Military Ski Instructor.
He is a graduate of the Joint Services Advanced Command and Staff College and King’s College London with an MA in Defence Studies. He also completed MSc through distance learning with Leicester University in Risk Crisis Disaster Management. In 2003 he was awarded a Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service in Afghanistan
