The Engineering Training Section at RNAS Culdrose gives theoretical and practical instruction on all aspects of helicopter maintenance for the Sea King and Merlin Helicopters.
Engineering Training Facility
ETS co-ordinates training for all engineering personnel employed on the Merlin and Sea King aircraft. On average around 120 trainees are trained every year. Trainees join after successfully passing their ‘Aircraft Engineering’ course and spend 23 weeks undergoing aircraft specific training under careful instruction here and in the Merlin Training Facility. With theoretical and practical instruction taking place in both the classroom and on Squadrons around the air station, trainees learn about aircraft systems, safety procedures, servicing and maintenance schedules, as well as aircraft movements and marshalling. Once they have attained the required standard at the end of their course, they will eventually become part of a front line Squadron.
