        Falklands Patrol

The Falklands Islands patrol is the Navy's standing commitment to the region in order to protect the UK's interests. There has been a Navy ship on constant patrol in the Falklands since 1982. The Navy maintain a presence in the Falklands to deter any potential aggressors. The Islands are British Sovereign Territory and our role is to maintain peace in the region.

The Falkland Islands deployment presents one of the harshest environments for any Royal Navy Ship's Company. The Islands are nearly 8,000 nautical miles from the UK and are subject to strong winds and high sea states. This environment requires the highest level of professionalism to operate in safely.

The Royal Navy has a patrol vessel on constant guard around these waters in order to prevent any potential aggression towards this small British dependancy.

During a typical 7 month deployment a ship will conduct exercises with land and air forces from the Army and the RAF to keep the fighting abilities of all 3 services up to scratch.

The Falkland islands are steeped with history after British forces fought to re-take the islands in the 1982 conflict with Argentina. Wherever possible personnel take the time to visit memorials for British forces that died during the conflict, and to pay their respects at the sites of sunken vessels.
