An Enterprise Of Family Fun!!

An Enterprise Of Family Fun

24/08/2012

HMS Enterprise held her Families Day on 12 August in Falmouth, there was a promise of blue skies, exciting demonstrations and good food. Well 2 out of 3 isn’t bad!

Despite a busy programme and preparations for deploying, having families onboard was always a top priority
Commanding Officer, Cdr Derek Rae

For those who made the long journey to see the Ship it was a great opportunity to see just how their loved ones live and work, as well as witness some practical capability demonstrations highlighting the potential threats and issues which could quite possibly befall the Ship when she is away.

Unfortunately, the British Summer failed to deliver those rare, blue skies.

Despite the cloud and drizzle, families were able to see how their loved ones onboard deal with fires, casualties and intruders attempting to gain entry onto the ship with some practical demonstrations.

Children had the opportunity to play as ‘Fireman Sam’ and dowse passing yachts, practicing for the Regatta, with water from the fire hoses.

The day ended at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club where amongst the Children’s entertainers, barbecue and a never ending supply of ice cream, families were able to meet each other and share tales of dealing with family life when their partner is away.

HMS Enterprise is in Falmouth for some final maintenance before what will be a relatively short deployment for a Survey Vessel.

Commanding Officer, Cdr Derek Rae said:

“Despite a busy programme and preparations for deploying, having families onboard was always a top priority.

"My Ship’s Company have pride in their ship and the impact of being able to share that with our loved ones by actually having them onboard, if only for a few hours, cannot be underestimated."

HMS Enterprise having returned from a deployment to the South Atlantic in April, participated in Exercise Joint Warrior off the West coast of Scotland and trained under Flag Officer Sea Training.

She is now, once again, ready for operations.
