Service personnel, civilian staff and foreign nationals under training stood side by side at HMS Raleigh today (Friday 11 November) to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Armistice Day Service was held in HMS Raleigh's drill shed and was conducted by Royal Navy Chaplain, Father David Yates. After observing two minutes silence, the names of members of the Naval Service who have died this year were read out by the establishment's Base Warrant Officer, Warrant Officer 1 Alex Orr.

Members of the Algerian and the Kuwaiti Navy who are undergoing English Language Training at HMS Raleigh also took part.

A separate service was held at the Royal Navy Submarine School when wreaths were laid by the Officer Commanding, Commander Nick Meredith, and members of the Submariners Association, at the statue to the unknown submariner.

On Sunday 13 November, HMS Raleigh personnel will take part in a number of Remembrance Day Services. Around 350 sailors will march from HMS Raleigh to Horson cemetery, in Torpoint, where 44 sailors and 21 Royal Engineers are buried in official war graves. They were killed when a German bomb hit an air-raid shelter within HMS Raleigh on 28 April 1941. Wreaths will be laid during the graveside service.

A marching contingent of sailors from HMS Raleigh will take part in the Civic Remembrance Service in Torpoint. As well as attending the service at Horson cemetery, Captain Steve Murdoch, the Commanding Officer of HMS Raleigh, will attend the Civic Service in Truro. Lieutenant Commander Jo Wall, will represent HMS Raleigh in Saltash.
