Local Charities benefit15/12/2011
Representatives from eight different charities and organisations in the local area were invited to Britannia Royal Naval College this week to receive a boost to their funds with a donation from the College Charity Fund.
Throughout the year personnel from Britannia Royal Naval College are encouraged to organise a variety of activities and events to raise money for charities and organisations.
Half of the money raised is donated to the RN/RM Charity the remainder to projects within the local community and area. During this term activities have included a pub quiz evening, a twenty-four hour triathlon, a sports competition evening and a particularly popular sports massage service.
Included amongst the guests was Mr Barry Probyn, Dartmouth Group Scout Leader who brought two Cub Scouts with him. They enjoyed their visit to the Commodore’s House and were thrilled to receive £750 to go towards new tents for the Scout Group.
Other organisations there were Dartmouth Caring and Dartmouth Baptist Church, the Willows and New Barton Community Association from Torbay, a local Downs Syndrome charity called ‘Down South’, the Retired Senior Volunteer Programme, Torbay Islamic Centre and Mosque and the services charity SSAFA .
