Weekly Programme of Events / Activities
The Phoenix Naval Community Centre is a well established centre with good facilities and outside grounds. The centre is available for private hire to Members for all your family needs whether children’s parties, adult birthday parties, weddings or maybe a family get together. The centre is fully licensed with a disco booth.
For information about private hire and membership please contact the Centre Administrator.
In support of service families the centre has a computer and an E-Bluey machine for your use.
The centre has a varied programme of events which includes coffee shop, youth group, Skoolz Out and the summer play-scheme Playdayz that runs throughout August, with a team of staff and volunteers from our local community.
Throughout the year the Phoenix Social Committee organise a variety of social events which include family orientated events such as family discos, adult functions and quiz nights. Sunday afternoons are busy with “Open the Box”, a meat and bottle raffle. Look out for posters and leaflets in your area advertising upcoming events.
The coffee shop a small informal group who meet each day in the Community Centre from 10am – 12 noon; light refreshments are available (at a small cost). In the main the groups members are mums, babies and pre-school children, although at holiday time we do have older brothers and sisters and it's not unknown for dads to come along too! You don’t need children to be a member just come along, it’s always nice to see a new face and everyone really is most welcome.
The group has a good selection of indoor and outdoor toys and in summer time we have a paddling pool, a sand and water tray which is great fun. Unstructured play is on the agenda for most days but occasionally we will have an activity day such as cooking or gluing. The children enjoy tossing pancakes on pancake day, a little messy but good fun!
So come along and bring a friend, new ideas are always welcome, see you soon.
A message from Lynda Pearson - This coming year we are planning greater involvement with the Northern Parade Children’s Centre and intend to work in partnership to provide parenting programmes that support service family life. As you can see from the timetable there are gaps in the afternoons and it would be great to talk over any ideas you might have for projects or groups that would benefit your community. Please give me a call to discuss.
