The Royal Navy actively encourages its personnel and their families to develop through education and training. This may be through on site facilities within an establishment or ship, or using local or national providers.
Naval Educational Support
You are strongly advised to contact your Ship/Unit Educational Officer to gain a complete insight into the educational facilities and opportunities that are open to you and your family.
Naval Education and Training Support (NETS) (Only via the Intranet - available to Service personnel only) provides information on the latest Defence Internal Notices and Joint Service Publication references.
Europe's largest eLearning programme is also available through the Defence Learning Portal (DLP). The introduction of DLP enables the MoD to use leading edge technology to deliver world-class training to anyone, when and where it is needed via the internet.
Standard Learning Credits
As a Service person you are entitled to a grant up to £175 per year towards your individual development. This can be for a wide range of academic courses and vocational training, including car and motorcycle lessons. You will need to register with your base education centre prior to starting your course to check for eligibility and entitlement.
Enhanced Learning Credits
The Ministry of Defence Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELC) is an initiative to promote lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces. The ELC scheme provides financial support in the form of a single up-front payment in each of a maximum of three separate financial years.
For resettlement specific information please go to the Leaving the Service section of this site.
